Hanbuilding Pottery Classes

Each pottery class will last just over 2 hours and are held in Camilla’s studio at Makespace Studios, just 5 minutes from Waterloo station.  Just text, email or call for available dates and details.

Classes will be adapted to suit your requirements. They will be ideal for you if you are new to clay or would like to build on skills you already have and require full attention. You do not need to bring anything, clay is easy to clean off and we have aprons. You will be introduced to a variety of hand-building techniques including pinch pots, coil pots and slab work. You will learn the basics about clay preparation and decorating techniques. You can either make functional pottery or sculptural pieces; there are endless possibilities. No experience is necessary.

Introduction to Handbuilt Pottery 5 week course dates:

Introduction to hand built pottery info: In this 5 week course you will be introduced to a variety of hand-building techniques including pinch pots, coil pots and slab work as well as the basics about clay preparation. You will have time to spend on learning and experimenting with decorating techniques. The course will allow you to confidentally create a beautiful piece of work whether it be sculptural or functional. No experience is necessary. A small number of people are in each course meaning you will get focused, individual tuition.

 

NEW – Intermediate Jug Making 5 week course dates:

Intermediate Course info: This is a project lead course where you will learn how to build a large jug and cups. You will build the jug by pinching and coiling and in the last session you will have the opportunity to glaze your pieces. This will teach you about the changes clay makes and how it becomes easier to work with over time.  You would already have the knowledge of basic handbuilding such as scoring and joining clay. I will take you throught different spout and handle ideas as well as introducing more surface design ideas including glazing.
FULL DAY WORKSHOP – 29 October 10am – 3pm – £90 – SLAB BUILD A LIDDED JAR

We will be learning how to slab build a lidded jar. You will create this jar from scratch, starting by rolling out the clay and into making the lid.  You can spend the whole day working on this piece, taking your time to think about the design and decoration with focussed guidnace from me.

Camilla trained in ceramics at Camberwell College of Art and has worked with clay since a young age.

Prices include all tools, materials and kiln firings. Also tea and biscuits!

Other timings

One to one and groups of 2 are flexible but as a general guide – Weekdays 2 hour slots between 10am – 9pm you may choose which 2 hours. Weekend – 2 hour slots between 11am – 5pm
